The new Volkswagen model – the compact T-Roc crossover – has added to the SUV lineup of the German manufacturer. The novelty was presented on August 23, 2019, that is, almost a month before the full-scale premiere scheduled for the Frankfurt Motor Show. The new SUV, located in the Volkswagen hierarchy a step below Tiguan, should strengthen the brand’s position in the segment of small crossovers. And for this model has all the necessary – a bright appearance with an abundance of personalization options, convenient and practical salon, an impressive set of electronic assistance systems, advanced information and entertainment complexes, a wide range of effective power plants, two drive circuits (front or full). But for all that, the competitors of the new German SUV, ready to enter the fast-growing class of compact SUV, even more than that – it’s Renault Captur, and Toyota C-HR , and Peugeot 2008 . And after all, the approach is Hyundai Kona , Kia Stonic and Citroen C3 Aircross .
The start of sales of the new Volkswagen T-Roc 2019-2020 in the European market is planned for the autumn of this year, and more specifically for November. At home – in Germany – the crossover will cost about 20 thousand euros. Production of the model is already set up at the plant in Palmela, Portugal. On the prospects for the emergence of the German novelty in Russia it is still difficult to say something definite, at least from the Russian office of the company does not come out with any specifics. The new Volkswagen crossover is based on the modular MQB platform already used by Seat Ibiza , Polo 6 and Audi Q2. The wheelbase is 2603 mm, the front and rear track are 1546 and 1541 mm, respectively.
The appearance of the serial version of “ti-roka” incorporates the features of the same-name prototype of 2019 and the T-Prime Concept GTE 2019 show car. The final design turned out to be Volkswagenically strict and restrained, but at the same time not devoid of dynamic notes. When decorating the bow of the body, many details were drawn with an eye on the concept of three years ago. Explicit borrowing is seen in the decor of the headlights and the radiator grille, which are combined into one visual unit, stretched across the entire width of the car and underlined by a chrome strip.

Part of the lighting elements, namely the navigation lights, turn signals and fog lights, are carried out on the bumper. There are two possible versions of daylight and turn signals. In the initial versions of T-Roc modules are made in the form of separate blocks, and in more expensive ones – in the format of a single ring-shaped section, when turning indicators are turned from white to orange. Fog lights are integrated in the very corners of the front bumper and are equipped with cornering lights.

The stern of the new Volkswagen T-Rock is formed by fashionable LED lights with three-dimensional graphics, an original bumper with a pronounced sport diffuser and a compact rectangular tailgate, topped by an impressive spoiler. In the profile, the crossover demonstrates a cup-shaped roof with highly inclined front and rear posts, a high window line, short overhangs (831 and 800 mm), poured sidewalls with strict horizontal ribs, powerful wheel arches. From the side perspective, “ti-rock” looks especially energetic, dynamic and venturesome.

The smallest Volkswagen all-terrain vehicle is the first among the brethren to try on the two-color body color. Variations in the Sport are even easier to identify: tinted rear windows and lanterns, a black roof, red brake callipers, fog lamps, 17-inch Kulmbach light-alloy wheels with two color options.
Finishing schemes and electronic equipment
The salon of the new compact crossover VW Group has much in common with the interior of the latest Polo hatchback. Differences in the layout of the front panel of the two models are except in the configuration of the deflectors: in “ti-roka”, the central nozzles are located on both sides of the multimedia display, and in the case of a five-door passenger car under it. The “younger” motors 1.0 TSI and 1.6 TDI work only in conjunction with the 6-speed manual transmission and only in the front-wheel drive configuration. The top 190-strong units of the 2.0 TSI and 2.0 TDI are combined exclusively with the 7DSG box and AWD full drive. The remaining two engines form seven modifications due to various combinations with two transmissions (6MKPP and 7DSG) and two variants of the drive (front and full).
Versions with 4Motion all-wheel drive chassis are equipped with the Active Control selector, allowing you to switch between the four driving modes: Street, Snow, Offroad and Offroad Individual. But to change the settings of the booster, suspension, climate control and robotic box will be able to both owners of all-wheel drive, and owners of front-drive T-Roc. Only the last for installing the necessary toggle switch will have to pay. And he has only five positions – Comfort, Normal, Sport, Eco and Individual.
