The new Mercedes G-Class 2019-2020 is officially presented at the auto show in Detroit . The new generation of the German SUV Mercedes G-Class will be replaced by the legendary Gelendvagen of the first generation , manufactured since 1979, which for many years of production has gone from a thoroughbred pioneer to a chic premium model with excellent off-road characteristics. In our review, the new Mercedes Gelandewagen AMG 2019-2020 – photo and video, price and specifications, technical characteristics of the new generation of Helika. Sales of the new Mercedes G-class in Europe and Russia will start in June 2020 at a price of 107040 euros for the Mercedes-Benz G 500 version with AMG’s 422-horsepower V8 biturbo in the company with the automatic transmission 9G-Tronic.
In our preliminary review, we described in detail the interior of the new Gelendvagen . So in this article we will focus on the bodywork and, of course, on its modern design, as well as the technical stuffing of the new generation of G-Class. The technique of the new Gelandewagen has absorbed almost all the achievements of the German manufacturer, created almost 40 years of production of the first generation of the model. At the same time, the developers have tried to maximally improve the new Helik in all respects, bringing the novelty to a higher level.
The new Mercedes-Benz G-Class has retained the familiar and recognizable image of its predecessor, but has significantly increased in size. The novel grew 53 mm in length to an impressive 4715 mm and became wider by as much as 121 mm, showing a body width of 1881 mm. The increase in the outer overall dimensions of the body is possible and not very noticeable from the outside, but it clearly shows up when you get into the salon of a new SUV.
The driver and the front passenger are allocated 38 mm more legroom, in the front of the cabin at the level of the shoulders was added 38 mm, and at the level of elbows 68 mm. Passengers of the second row of legroom now 150 mm more, at the level of the shoulders the increase is 27 mm, and at the level of elbows 56 mm. So in the salon of the new Mercedes G-class is much more spacious than in the cabin of the predecessor, ready to go on a well-deserved rest.
At the heart of the new generation of the German off-road vehicle lies, of course, a frame made of high-strength steel. The new body with a steel frame and hinged details from aluminum (wings, hood and doors) demonstrates excellent torsional stiffness characteristics – 10162 Nm / degree (old model 6537 Nm / degree). High-strength steel and aluminum allowed to reduce the curb weight of the new Gelendvagen by as much as 170 kg compared to the last generation SUV, and this despite the increased overall dimensions of the body.
The minimum ground clearance increased by 6 mm to 241 mm, the depth of the ford passed 700 mm (+100 mm to the parameters of the predecessor). The geometric patency of the body has increased, albeit not significantly, but still a pleasant bonus.
The angle of entry is -31 degrees, the angle of the ramp is 26 degrees, the angle of the exit is 30 degrees.
From the technology back to the new exterior design of the body of Gelik and note that we have a stylishly refined light strokes and modern equipment (LED headlight and headlamps with LED fillings), a familiar and beloved image of the previous model of the car. Everything is so familiar and familiar that an uninitiated person will even think that the Mercedes G-Class just went through another restyling … in fact, we have a completely new body, but retained the familiar features of its predecessor.
The front part of the body with a hood towering over the wings, round headlights and a rectangular falshradiator grille, compact bumper. Side of the body of the novelty is almost not distinguishable from the model of the last generation, as, indeed, from behind. In a word, as was the G-Class “cube”, it remained.
