The new Mercedes-AMG G 63 is officially presented and ready for the public premiere on the podium of the Geneva International Motor Show in March 2020. In our review of Mercedes-AMG G 63 2019-2020 – photos and videos, the price and specifications, the technical characteristics of the new generation of “mad” Gelendevagen, equipped with a 582-strong 4.0 V8 biturbo motor, which provides a German SUV with a body weight of 2,485 kg phenomenal dynamics of acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h in just 4.5 seconds and a maximum speed of 220 km / h (with AMG Driver’s Package providing a maximum speed of 240 km / h). In Russia, the new Mercedes AMG G 63 will officially go on sale in early summer this year at a price of not less than 160,000 euros.
Presenting the new Mercedes G-Class as part of the auto show in Detroit in mid-January 2020 in the face of Mercedes-Benz G 500 representatives of the Daimler concern assured that in the very near future the model line will be replenished with more affordable versions of the novelty with diesel and petrol V6. However, the Germans did not start exchanging details, and less than a month later they rolled out Gelendevagen with a special character – Mercedes-AMG G 63. However, there is no point in wondering for the simple reason that AMG Helicons are sold in the full sense of the word with a bang. In Russia, almost every second sold Gelendevagen is the version of the AMG-terrain vehicle.
About the new generation Mercedes G-class, we have already told our readers in two full reviews, detailing the interior and technical part of the German SUV. So, in the case of AMG G63, let’s focus on the differences between the novelty and the standard Mercedes G 500 and start with the most important thing – the technology.

Under the hood of the SUV with the inscription G 63 on the stern there is the same engine as in the engine compartment G 500. This petrol 4.0 liter V8 biturbo, but with a higher power of 585 hp and, understandably, a large maximum torque of 850 Nm . The engine is additionally equipped with a cylinder deactivation system (AMG Cylinder Management), which disconnects 2,3,5 and 8 cylinders at low loads. According to the manufacturer, such a system helps to ensure fuel consumption in a combined mode of motion at a level of 13.2 liters. Transmission new 9-speed – AMG Speedshift TCT 9G.
The engine and gearbox provide a heavy SUV with a loaded mass of 2485 kg with acceleration dynamics like sports car (from 0 to 100 kmh in 4.5 seconds), and a high maximum speed limited by electronics at 220 (km / h). However, the optional package AMG Driver’s Package allows you to loosen the electronic collar and reach 240 km / h behind the wheel of the new Mercedes-AMG G 63.
In the arsenal of high-speed Gelendwagen, the AMG Performance 4Matic all-wheel drive transmission, as well as the AMG Ride Control adaptive shock absorbers and the optional Sport Plus driving mode (hard sport mode allowing even refueling when changing gears) to standard Comfort, Sport, Eco, Individual and G-Mode.
Having dealt with the technical component of the new Mercedes-AMG G 63, we will carefully evaluate the original body parts and the chic interior of the new generation Mercedes-Benz G-Class flagship (according to preliminary information, the Mercedes-AMG G 65 version will no longer be).
Visually, the G 63 is in fact minimally different from the G 500, but the differences are also very stylish:
- Firstly, the falshradiator grating with vertical slats and the inscription AMG;
- Secondly, the front bumper with huge air intakes;
- Third, extended wheel arches, capable of taking 21-22 inch wheels;
- Fourth, the exhaust pipe branches brutally sticking out from under the rapids.
The salon of the new Mercedes-AMG G 63 almost completely replicates the interior of the youngest in the rank of the Mercedes-Benz G 500, but for the “mad” Gelendevagen, the original AMG sports steering multifunction steering wheel with the Nappa trimmed from below rim and trim, as well as multi-circuit seats for the driver and the front passenger (automatic adjustment of the side support rollers and the lumbar support, the memory of the settings, heating, ventilation and massage functions). In the presence of an understandable case, a pair of 12.3-inch color multifunction displays, three-zone climate control, premium sound system Burmester and high-end materials – genuine leather, Alcantara and Nappa, aluminum and carbon.
