The new hybrid sedan Honda Insight is officially presented on the eve of the world premiere at the New York Auto Show 2020. Having replaced the generation Honda Insight became not only a 4 door sedan (the predecessor of the Honda Insight 2 was produced with a hatchback body), but also tried on a new “cart” from the model Honda Civic 10 generation , and also got a hybrid 151-strong power unit i-MMD based on gasoline 1.5-liter engine, working on the Atkinson cycle and two electric motors. In our review of the Honda Insight 2019-2020 – photos and videos, the price and specifications, the technical characteristics of the hybrid sedan, which is satisfied with only 4.3 liters of fuel when driving in city mode. Sales of the 3rd generation Honda Insight in North America will start in the summer of 2020 at a price around 23,000 US dollars.
I would like to note that the hybrid sedan Honda Insight and its components are manufactured in the United States. The car itself will be put on the conveyor of the Honda plant in Greensburg, Indiana, the batteries are produced at the Marysville Auto Plant in Ohio, and a hybrid power plant is assembled at the Honda plant in the city of Anna, Ohio. There is a maximum localization of the production of a new generation of Honda Insight in America, suggesting that the novelty will not appear outside the US and Canada.
Hybrid Insight having moved to the Honda Civic platform (the models have identical wheelbase sizes of 2,700 mm and the overall power frame of the body) visually very similar to the sopliform brother, but … is positioned by the Japanese manufacturer as a more solid car with a rich base equipment. By the way, the new Honda Insight in the model line of American Honda Motor will be located between the sibling brother Civic, offered at a price of 18,840 dollars, and Honda Accord with a price tag of 23,570 US dollars. Interestingly, the Honda Accord Hybrid is valued at $ 25,100.
Despite the similarity of Insight and Civic, the hybrid Honda novelty looks more representative and stylish. In this case, the models have almost identical body profiles with a sloping domed roof, additional windows in the rear pillars and exciting splashes of stampings adorning the front and rear wings.
But the design of the front and rear parts of the body of the new hybrid model Honda Insight is completely original. In front, the 3rd generation hybrid exhibits LED headlamps (standard), pierced with a chrome decorative trim, which, in turn, adorns the original falshradiator grille. There is a bumper with a lot of aerodynamic elements and rays of LED fog lights. We add that the hood with a stylish and calm relief is made of aluminum.
The rear of the body looks athletic, knocked down and assembled. In the presence of a compact boot lid, topped with a spoiler, a stylish LED parking light, a bumper with calm and peaceful forms.
The power frame of the new generation Honda Insight is manufactured using the Honda Advance Compatibility Engineering technology. In addition to the aluminum hood, the hybrid sedan received a lot of additional sound and noise absorbing materials installed in the engine compartment, front and rear wheel arches, as well as in the hidden cavities of the car’s bottom. Such an acoustic shield helps to ensure the silence and comfort in the cabin, which will be discussed later in our review.
The five-seater interior of the new generation Honda Insight, as well as the body of the hybrid model, in general resembles the interior of the soplatform model Honda Civic, but … just reminds, and nothing more. In fact, the architecture of the front panel and the center console of the hybrid novelty is completely original. In the arsenal is an individual steering multifunctional steering wheel and an original combined instrument panel (analog speedometer dial and 7-inch color screen, capable of displaying both the readings of the energy exchange system and the on-board computer), the transmission control unit with buttons, its accessories and interior parts.
The new generation of Honda Insight is offered in three fixed LX, EX and Touring trim levels. The basic version, called the LX, is equipped quite well: all-LED headlights with LED running lights, LED parking lights, 16-inch alloy wheels, electric and heated rearview mirrors, 7-inch color display on the instrument panel, keyless entry system in the saloon with the button for the activation of the engine, a standard audio system with 6 speakers (Bluetooth, Pandora), air conditioning, folding split rear seat and a lot of security systems in the face of Forward Collison Warning and Collision Mitigation Braking S ystem, Lane Departure Warning and Lane Keeping Assistance System, Road Departure Mitigation and Adaptive Cruise Control with Low-Speed Follow and Traffic Sign Recognition.
The more advanced EX equipment is additionally equipped with an 8-speaker audio system, an 8-inch touch screen multimedia system (Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Honda Link, Mobile Hotspot Capability) and a Honda LaneWatch system with a rear-view camera that sees 180 degrees behind.
The top version of the Touring (in the overview presented by this name) for the new hybrid sedan Honda Insight, in addition to the above equipment, will receive 17-inch alloy wheels, LED fog lights, rain sensor, electric hatch, LED turn signal indicators in the rear view mirrors, driver’s seat and front passenger with electric adjustment (driver in 8 directions, and passenger in 4 directions) and heated, perforated leather seats, navigation with Honda Satellite Link Link Honda HD Digital Traffic, 4G LTE Wi-Fi, 450-watt audio system with premium 10-Tew speakers, dual-zone climate control.
Thanks to the placement of a lithium-ion traction battery under the rear seats, the new generation Honda Insight’s trunk can accept 428 liters of cargo volume. If you need to transport more cargo, you can add a separate 60:40 back of the rear seat, thus gaining access to the cabin with a significant increase in the luggage compartment.
Specifications Honda Insight 2019-2020 year.
The third generation hybrid model Honda Insight is equipped with an i-MMD powerplant (151 HP 267 Nm), which includes a petrol four-cylinder 1.5-liter engine running on the Atkinson cycle, two electric motors and a lithium-ion traction battery. Honda’s new hybrid is very careful about fuel consumption, and is satisfied with an average of 4.3 liters of gasoline per 100 km of mileage in urban mode. It’s a shame only that in a fully electric mode the car can overcome only 1.6 km.
