Appearances of the first serial pickup Mercedes all the public of the public waited with special impatience from the moment when the German manufacturer announced the possibility of the release of such a model. And finally, the debut took place – the new Mercedes X-Class 2019-2020 was officially presented on July 18 at a special event in Cape Town, South Africa. In the fall, another review of the novelty will be held, this time even more ambitious at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
The start of European sales of the new model is scheduled for November 2019, but the acceptance of orders in Germany is already open. The base price of Mercedes X-class in the German market was 37,294 euros (about 2.5 million rubles at the rate of the Central Bank of Russia). Russian equipment and prices have not yet been made public, but the approximate dates of the pickup’s arrival in Russia are known – this is the spring of 2019. A little earlier sales will begin in Australia and South Africa, and a year later – in the countries of South America. The assembly of cars for consumers of the Old World will be adjusted at the Nissan plant in Spanish Barcelona. Compete Mercedes will be with the Mitsubishi L200 , Toyota Hilux , Ford Ranger , Fiat Fullback and Volkswagen Amarok .
Dimensions, geometry and carrying capacity
The choice of the company Nissan as a production site for the release of the X-Class is not accidental, because the novelty is a joint development of the concerns of Mercedes and Renault-Nissan. The same car with a three-beam star technically almost completely copies the pickup Nissan Navara – borrowing occurs right up to the power units and suspension configuration. The platform, of course, also “nissanovskaya”, hence the same size of the wheelbase – 3150 mm. However, for all other parameters of the body, Mercedes is superior to its donor. Thus, the length of the “X-class” is 5340 mm (+10 mm relative to Navara), the width without side mirrors is 1920 mm (+70 mm), height – 1819 mm (+14 mm). The track of the German pickup truck is also wider: front – 1632 mm, rear – 1625 (for Navara and there, and there 1570 mm).

The ground clearance of the new Mercedes-Benz X-Class is 202 mm by default, but it is possible to raise the rear axle, increasing it to 221 mm. The amount of clearance, of course, affects the geometric patency of the machine. With a standard lumen, the entry and exit angles are 28.8 and 23.8 degrees respectively, with the enlarged angles of 30.1 and 25.9 degrees. The angle of the ramp is 20.4 or 22 degrees. The pickup is able to climb up to an incline of 45 degrees and overcome a water obstacle with a depth of up to 600 mm.
The cargo platform of the new X-class is almost identical in characteristics to the original Navara: dimensions – 1587х1560х474 mm, load-carrying capacity – 1042 kg. The dimensions of the compartment are chosen in such a way that a standard europallet fit between the wheel arches. Buyers will be offered a lot of additional equipment for the body – fastening points and guides, soft roof, hard top with LED lighting, lockable box with a capacity of 156 liters with the possibility of fixing in any part of the platform. Also in all versions of the car the cargo compartment is equipped with a 12-volt outlet.
Look of the Mercedes X-Class
German designers did their best to hide the family ties of its novelty with the original Japanese model. And, judging by the photos, they succeeded. Immediately make a reservation that the X-class is produced only with a double cabin and the resulting four-door layout. Decoration of the front of the body does not give rise to doubt in the accessories of the car to the Mercedes ruler. To this, all their appearance is hinted by the headlight lights familiar to the fans of the brand, the branded radiator grille with two horizontal beams and a large emblem in the center, the bonnet with characteristic relief of the ribs, the outlines of the wings. Within the limits of the given stylistics there is a gradation on levels of equipment, each of which provides its own features of exterior bodywork. There are three versions available: Pure, Progressive and Power.
The basic version of Pure is distinguished by halogen optics, black bumper, 17-inch steel wheels.
The Progressive version is recognized by the body-colored bumpers and 17-inch alloy wheels.
The most spectacular and beautiful looks is the pickup in the top version of Power, which presupposes the presence of LED headlamps, chrome lined bumpers and 18-inch cast wheels.
Additional individualization of the external design makes it possible to produce an optional Style package, applicable to the modifications of Progressive and Power. This package includes tinted rear windows, side steps, roof rails and 18-19-inch alloy wheels with six spokes. For a fee, you can equip the car with 76-mm steel arches with a stop signal or a rigid superstructure with rails that can withstand loads of up to 150 kg.
Body rigging options
The range of colors of the body of the Mercedes-Benz X-Class includes nine shades: three conventional (Danakil Red, Chisana White, Granite Green) and six “metal” (Kabara Black, Axinite Bronze, Rock Gray, Cavansite Blue, Diamond Silver, Bering White) .
Three levels of equipment
The five-seater cabin of the X-class meets the purely Mercedes-style front panel architecture – a combination of devices with a 5-inch display from the C-Class , a stand-alone multimedia screen (Audio 20 or COMAND Online) like the V-Class , classic round ventilation nozzles, climate control, ergonomic steering wheel with height adjustment. There are six variants of upholstery – two for each of the complete sets. Plus, the artificial leather trim can be ordered for the front panel, door cards and armrest.
Interior in the base Pure
In the standard version of Pure, designed to operate a pickup truck as a workhorse, only the necessary equipment is present without any excesses. This includes mechanical adjustment of the front seats, air conditioning, unpretentious multimedia system Audio 20 with USB, side mirrors with electric adjustment. For a surcharge, the car is offered to be equipped with heated seats, round-trip cameras, parking sensors. The upholstery of seats in the “base” is fabric, the floor is finished with plastic, and not with pile.
Interior of Progressive version
More expensive complete sets of Progressive and Power significantly expand the initial list of equipment. There are leather trim, front panel upholstery with artificial leather, two-zone climate control THERMOTRONIC, heating and electric folding of exterior mirrors, electric seats (including lumbar support), rain sensor, multimedia system COMAND Online with 8.4-inch screen and touchpad on the central tunnel, keyless access.
Second row of seats
The Active X-Class active safety kit includes Active Braking Assist, Lane Keeping Assist, Traffic Sign Assist, a rear view camera or an overview, cruise control, trailer stabilization, control tire pressure.
Specifications of Mercedes-Benz X-Class 2019-2020 year
Initially, the asset of the pickup will only power units from Renault-Nissan. On their basis the following modifications are formed:
- Mercedes X 200 – 2.5-liter gasoline engine with 165 hp, 6MKPP, only rear-wheel drive;
- Mercedes X 220 d – diesel 2.3 dCi with one turbine and output of 163 hp (403 Nm), 6MKPP, rear or pluggable four-wheel drive;
- Mercedes X 250 d – diesel 2.3 dCi with two compressors and recoil 190 hp (450 Nm), 6MKPP or 7-speed “automatic”, rear or plug-in all-wheel drive.
From the middle of 2019, the X 350 d version with a Mercedes 3.0 turbodiesel, generating 258 hp, will be on sale. and a torque of 550 Nm. Such an aggregate with slightly different thrust settings is already working under the hood of the latest Mercedes E-Class . After adaptation for the X-Class, it will work in conjunction with the automatic box 7G-Tronic Plus and permanent all-wheel drive 4MATIC, distributing the force between the axles in a ratio of 40/60 (front / rear). In the arsenal of the Mercedes X 350 d will be a control system DYNAMIC SELECT with five driving modes: Comfort, Eco, Sport, Manual and Offroad.
Suspension of the new Mercedes is built according to the same scheme as the Navara: double cross-arms in front and a continuous bridge, supported on each side by five levers, from behind. The brake mechanisms are “circular” disk.
