Since 1925, when the “first” Rolls-Royce Phantom was introduced, the luxury British sedan of the next generation is the benchmark for the entire global automotive industry. Of course, the new Rolls-Royce Phantom is a real treasure: a stylish, modern and unique exterior exterior design, a luxurious interior, a phenomenal set of super modern equipment and an impressive technical stuffing. Novelty is endowed with everything necessary to please wealthy customers and try to repeat the commercial success of the predecessor Rolls-Royce Phantom 7-generation, implemented over 14 years in an amount of more than 10 thousand copies.
Interestingly, the Rolls-Royce Phantom VI, produced during 23 years (1968-1991), found only 374 owners. What is the secret of the success of the 7-generation Rolls-Royce Phantom sedan? The fact that the German concern BMW , who bought Rolls-Royce Motors from the engineering conglomerate Vickers Limited in 1998, made a real revolution in the production of luxury cars with the statuette “Spirit of Ecstasy” on top of a proprietary falshradiator grille manufactured by hand. We want to admit that the Bavarians managed to breathe new life into Rolls-Royce.
Let’s return to the posh sedan Rolls-Royce Phantom 8-generation and enjoy in full all the beauty, grace, luxury and technology of the flagship of the British company, founded in the distant 1904.
We want to note at once that outwardly Phantom 8 is quite easy to confuse with the predecessor Phantom 7. In design, of course, no revolution, but only evolutionary processes, which gave the image of a new Phantom a more modern look. The Flagship Rolls-Royce flaunts a phenomenally stylish body with all-LED headlights, supplemented by long-range laser-phosphor sections, providing illumination at distances up to 600 meters in front of the car and rear light bulbs with LED fill. The company’s family radiator grille is now integral with the body and is higher than its predecessor. In this case, the statuette “Spirit of Ecstasy” is located 12.7 mm higher than the Phantom 7.
The new Rolls-Royce Phantom 2020 looks solid, stern and impressive. It seems that the sedan is cut from a huge ingot of aluminum, in which there is some truth. The body of the new flagship Rolls-Royce is almost entirely made of aluminum using the unique Architecture of Luxury technology. At the heart of the model is also an aluminum modular platform, which, by the way, underlies the first crossover of the British manufacturer – Rolls-Royce Cullinan.
The wide use of aluminum and aluminum alloys and a new modular platform have allowed to increase the rigidity of the body of the new generation of the sedan by 30% compared to its predecessor. But the curb weight of the new Rolls-Royce Phantom 8-generation increased by as much as 75 kg in comparison with the Rolls-Royce Phantom 7-generation to an impressive 2,625 kg. Extra kilograms appeared due to the installation of more equipment and the use of better sound insulation (two-layer 6 mm glass, the total mass of sound and noise absorbing materials reaches 130 kg). The interior of the new Phantom is quieter by 10% than in the cabin of the previous generation of the model.
- The outer overall dimensions of the Rolls-Royce Phantom 8 8 2019-2020 are 5762 mm in length, 2020 mm in width, 1646 mm in height, with 3552 mm of wheelbase.
- In the model line there is also an elongated Phantom EWB with a wheelbase stretched for 200 mm (3752 mm) and a total overall body length of 5962 mm.
- Standard new Phantom is equipped with 22-inch wheels with special Continental tires, filled with foam size 255/45 R22 (tires with foam at 9 dB quieter than conventional tires).
- Using 130 kg of noise-insulating materials, double 6 mm glass and tires filled with foam make the new Phantom the quietest car in the world to date.
Salon “eighth” Rolls-Royce Phantom – a real work of art (architecture, materials, finishes and interior details). The servo drives are equipped with front and rear doors, which are opened traditional for the model against the motion. There is a convenient multifunctional steering wheel, a digital instrument panel with a 12.3-inch color display, Rolls-Royce classic circular air duct deflectors, a multimedia system with a retractable 12.25-inch screen, Wi-Fi hotspot, navigation, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto (control is carried out with the help of beemshash pucks, located between the front seats and in the armrest of the rear seats).
There is also a projection display, all chairs with electric adjustment, heating, ventilation and massage. Separate rear seats can slightly rotate to each other, so that passengers do not strain their necks when communicating. In the back of the salon there are folding tables and monitors, armrests with heating, the ceiling – the starry sky.
As security systems and electronic assistants, there is a standard Alertness Assistant system with 4 cameras providing a panoramic view from the bird’s eye view, Night Vision and Vision Assist cameras, Active Cruise Control, automatic braking with pedestrian detection, object tracking in blind mirror areas Rear view and unauthorized intersection of the line of marking, cross-traffic warning.
Technical specifications of Rolls-Royce Phantom 2019-2020. At the heart of the Fantan 8-generation original platform with a completely independent architecture (in front of two levers, behind five levers), the suspension is active, pneumatic, received the name Magic Carpet Ride (magic carpet). The active suspension of the luxury British sedan is similar in design to the suspension of the new Audi A8 sedan (stereo cameras installed under the windshield monitor the topography of the road surface and transmit data to the actuators, which in turn ensure the body position change with the stabilizers of lateral stability). However, the active suspension Magic Carpet Ride only works at speeds of up to 100 kph. There is one more innovation – rear wheels with the effect of steering, providing a large sedan with high maneuverability in urban conditions.
Under the hood of Phantom 8, the newest 6.75-liter petrol V12, equipped with two turbo compressors (571 hp 900 Nm) and transmitting traction to the rear wheels with the help of 8 ZF automatic transmissions. The maximum torque of 900 Nm is already available at 1700 rpm. A large representative sedan accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in 5.3 seconds, the maximum speed is limited to 250 km / h.
